Ingredients
  

Onion Base
  • 4 large sweet onions sliced into thick rings
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese shredded
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter cut into pieces
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly butter a baking dish.
  2. Arrange sliced sweet onions evenly in the baking dish.
  3. Season onions with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder.
  4. Dot onions with butter pieces.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheeses evenly over the onions.
  6. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use sweet onions for best flavor. Serve hot.
