Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring gel preferred
Coating
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for rolling

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until smooth.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes until set but not browned.
  8. Cool slightly, then roll warm cookies in powdered sugar. Cool completely and roll again.

Notes

For best color, use gel food coloring and avoid overbaking.
