Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich

A classic Philly cheesesteak made with thin-sliced beef, melted cheese, and sautéed onions on a soft hoagie roll.

Ingredients
  

Sandwich
  • 1 lb ribeye steak thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper optional, sliced
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 6 slices provolone cheese or Cheese Whiz
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • salt and black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Large skillet or griddle
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board

Method
 

  1. Heat oil and butter in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook onions and peppers until soft and lightly caramelized. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add steak to the skillet, season, and cook quickly until just browned.
  4. Return vegetables to the skillet and mix well.
  5. Top with cheese and let melt, then fold mixture together.
  6. Toast hoagie rolls lightly.
  7. Fill rolls with steak mixture and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, slice steak very thin and cook over high heat.
