Method
- Whisk sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan. Gradually whisk in milk.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Temper egg yolks, then return to saucepan and cook briefly until smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
- Layer wafers, bananas, and warm pudding in a serving dish.
- Chill at least 2 hours, then top with whipped cream before serving.
Notes
For best flavor, assemble while pudding is warm and chill overnight.
