Ingredients
  

Gumbo Base
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 lb shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 12 oz smoked sausage sliced

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheet
  • Wire rack
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

Method
 

  1. Cook oil and flour over medium heat, stirring constantly, until dark brown roux forms.
  2. Add chopped vegetables and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in sausage, seasonings, and stock. Simmer.
  4. Add okra and shrimp. Cook until shrimp are done.
  5. Serve over rice with garnishes.
