Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs large
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups chocolate chips
Caramel Layer
  • 1.5 cups soft caramel candies unwrapped
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream
Topping
  • 1 tsp flaky sea salt to taste

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients, then fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Press half of the dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  7. Melt caramel candies with heavy cream until smooth, then spread over dough.
  8. Drop remaining dough over caramel layer, leaving small gaps.
  9. Bake for 28–32 minutes until golden but still soft in the center.
  10. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For extra gooey bars, slightly underbake and allow to set while cooling.
