Method
- Activate yeast in warm milk with pinch of sugar for 5–10 minutes.
- Mix flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
- Combine melted butter, eggs, and vanilla with yeast mixture.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, knead until smooth and elastic.
- Fold in cranberries, candied orange peel, and walnuts.
- First rise: cover and let dough double in size for 1–2 hours.
- Shape dough into loaf, place on baking sheet or pan.
- Second rise: cover and let dough puff for 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool completely on wire rack.
- Optional: mix powdered sugar with milk/orange juice and vanilla; drizzle over bread.
Notes
Ensure liquids are warm but not hot to avoid killing yeast. Toss add-ins in flour to prevent sinking.
