Ingredients
  

Potatoes
  • 3 large Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
Seasoning & Flavoring
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp fresh thyme leaves plus extra for garnish
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 clove garlic minced
Balsamic Glaze
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp honey
Cheese (Optional)
  • 0.5 cup Gruyère or Parmesan cheese grated
Butter
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted for brushing

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking dish or springform pan
  • Mandoline or sharp knife
  • Small saucepan

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Slice potatoes thinly and pat dry.
  3. Toss potatoes with olive oil, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer potatoes in dish, sprinkle cheese if using, brush top with butter.
  5. Cover with foil and bake 35 minutes. Remove foil and bake 25–30 more minutes until golden.
  6. Simmer balsamic vinegar and honey for 3–5 minutes until thickened.
  7. Drizzle glaze over torte, garnish with thyme, and serve warm.

Notes

Best served immediately for maximum crispiness. Leftovers can be reheated in oven to maintain texture.
