Ingredients
  

Sandwich
  • 4 slices bread sourdough or country loaf
  • 4 slices cheese Gruyère or cheddar
  • 1 large onion thinly sliced
  • 1 medium apple thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium-low heat and caramelize onions for 20–25 minutes.
  2. Slice apples thinly and set aside.
  3. Butter one side of each bread slice and assemble sandwiches with cheese, onions, and apples.
  4. Cook sandwiches in skillet over medium heat until golden brown and cheese is melted, flipping once.

Notes

Use low heat to avoid burning and allow cheese to melt fully.
